The brief.

This newly purchased home is about 40 years old and needed some love!
These two rooms are the first you walk into when entering from the front door - they are quite small with low ceilings and limited natural light. I wanted this area to be inviting with a light and airy feel and enough space to walk through easily with out running into the furniture, but not boring with all the furniture pushed up against the walls.

Sitting Room

Style: Modern Country Coastal. The client wanted this to be a comfortable sitting area for adults/parents with some storage. There was a small budget and an ASAP time frame!
I wanted to create an inviting conversation space or somewhere you could enjoy a cuppa/glass of wine and a good book. Adding lamps for soft ambient light, layered rugs for warmth, interest and texture - tying in with the rug in the opposite dining area.
Even though this is a designated adult siting room, these clients have small children and wanted to keep the furniture kid friendly and easy to maintain, so a washable slipcover sofa was the perfect choice.

Dining

Style: Modern Country Coastal. Needed to seat 6-8, family friendly.
Limited natural light, low ceilings and dark flooring made this space feel dull and cold. The clients wanted to keep the slate floors (which I loved!). There were some mismatched slate where an old fire place mantel still remained, so to remedy this I used a large jute rug to cover the patch of slate, lighten, warm and zone the space. The large mirror helps to reflect and bounce light around the room and is a really nice feature casually leaning on the wall.
I used the same warm white paint on the ceiling, walls and trim helping the space feel lighter and the ceiling higher.
